Marmosets

The marmoset also known Zaris are 1 of 22 new world monkey species 

Most marmosets are about 20cm long native to South America and have been found in Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay and Peru. 

Marmosets are the most commonly kept primates in the uk we often see Geoffroy marmosets and sometimes high-breads of the two.

Marmoset diet consists of mainly sap and gum from trees, but also eat leaves, fruit, seeds and flowers. They also eat insects lizards, frogs and baby birds in their natural environment.

In captivity the most common illness we see is

  • Metabolic bone disease
  • Social Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Malnutrition
  • Aggression

Squirrel Monkeys

Naturally live in canopy’s in the rainforest of central/South America and the coastal regions of Brazil there size rages from 60-72cm long.

Their natural diet consists of mainly sap and gum from trees, but also eat leaves, fruit, seeds and flowers. They also eat insects lizards, frogs and baby birds in their natural environment.

Squirrel monkeys are one of the most intelligent of the new world primates which means they need a lot of intellectual stimulation to prevent depression.

They usually live in troops of up to 50.

Capuchins

They are one of the more common primates they live in the trees in south and central Americ

There natural diet consists of fruit, nuts bugs and sometimes shellfish.

They need to be kept in social groups of around 10 and need have extreme and complex enclosures.

A licence is needed for this primate.
